Chargebee RevRec vs Maxio: How Does Each Allocate SSP?

How Chargebee RevRec and Maxio set SSP, handle changes and post to the GL, from each vendor's own pages, with a 15-month free-months example.

Chargebee RevRec and Maxio both offer revenue recognition close to subscription billing. This comparison uses only each vendor's own public pages, checked on 20 Oct 2026, and focuses on standalone selling price (SSP): how each one sets it, documents it and allocates the transaction price. Where a page doesn't say something, we write "not published". That means the page we read did not state it, not that the product lacks it. For the underlying method, read our guide to SSP allocation under ASC 606.

What are Chargebee RevRec and Maxio?

Chargebee RevRec is a revenue recognition subledger. Chargebee describes an "end-to-end, automated revenue recognition workflow based on ASC 606's and IFRS 15's five-step model". Maxio is a billing and financial reporting platform with revenue recognition, and its page also names ASC 606 and IFRS 15. One is a dedicated subledger; the other is part of a billing platform.

How do Chargebee RevRec and Maxio compare side by side?

The table below sets each vendor's own wording side by side, row by row, with a link to the page each fact comes from. Every fact was checked on 20 Oct 2026. "Not published" means the page we read did not say it. Vendor pages change, so re-check before relying on any row.

Do you need their billing product to use their revenue recognition?

For Chargebee it depends on the plan. Its pricing page says the RevRec Performance plan "is available only to Chargebee Billing customers"; the Enterprise plan carries no such note, and the product page lists integrations with Stripe and others. Maxio's revenue recognition is part of its billing platform, with advanced revenue management listed as an optional module.

How does each one set and document SSP?

Chargebee says allocation uses "a configurable SSP library tied to your price book", with "SSP documentation traceable at every step", and its Enterprise plan adds an "SSP Price Analyzer". Maxio says it handles "standalone selling prices (SSP) and negotiated transaction prices" and can "reallocate revenue". Maxio's allocation method is not published on the page we read.

For an audit file, the question is the same in either tool: can a reviewer see each SSP's basis, the share of price each obligation receives and the rounding rule, then re-perform the split outside the system?

How does each one treat upsells, renewals and other changes?

Chargebee says it automates "recognition treatment for upsells, co-terms, credit notes, early renewals, and other modifications". Maxio says you can "instantly edit contracts for upgrades, refunds, and other changes", with schedules adjusted "without overwriting original data". Neither page we read sets out the accounting method for each type of change in detail.

How does each one post to your general ledger?

Chargebee says RevRec can "post summarized journal entries to the right accounts in your general ledger, automatically, on your fiscal calendar", and billing data syncs in "on a 24-hour cycle". Maxio says it can "sync invoices and SaaS payments to NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks, etc."; its sync frequency and revenue-journal posting method are not published.

What does each one cost?

Maxio publishes Grow at $599 per month for up to $100k in monthly billings, with Scale by quote above that; which tier includes which level of revenue recognition is not published. Chargebee RevRec pricing is not published: the Performance plan says "request pricing", and Enterprise is by quote.

How is a free-months bundle allocated by SSP?

Take a $54,000.00 contract for 15 months of service starting November 2026, with three months free. Subscription and standard support have SSPs totalling $63,000.00, so the $9,000.00 discount is spread pro rata. The $54,000.00 is recognised over the full 15-month service period, not just the paid months.

ObligationPatternSSPAllocated
SubscriptionRatable, 15 months$56,250.00$48,214.29
Standard support (absorbs residual cent)Ratable, 15 months$6,750.00$5,785.71
Total$63,000.00$54,000.00

Months 1 to 14 recognise $3,599.99 each: subscription $3,214.28 and support $385.71. Month 15 (Jan 2028) recognises $3,600.14, because the subscription's final month absorbs $0.09 ($3,214.28 × 14 + $3,214.37) and support's absorbs $0.06 ($385.71 × 14 + $385.77). Total recognised is $54,000.00 and the unrecognised balance ends at $0.00. The engine result's SHA-256 hash is f147aa14cb17c7a8427946e232f06d7bac7daf74d807b6f16bca79b590468a10.

The engine models recognition only. It does not model billing schedules or contract assets, so the gap between invoices and revenue in the free months needs separate analysis. Try it in the app, or check the split in the SSP allocation calculator.

Where does SSP allocation evidence fit alongside either tool?

Soluqube is an allocation and evidence layer that sits next to Chargebee RevRec or Maxio. You confirm the obligations, price and SSPs. It returns the relative-SSP allocation in integer arithmetic, a full-term schedule that ties to the cent, clause evidence for each obligation and a SHA-256-hashed export for your external auditor.

Clause evidence is the page and verbatim excerpt behind each obligation. In the app, uploaded text-layer PDFs also get a highlight on the cited line, and exports carry the page and excerpt. Contract extraction is heuristic, so you confirm every field. It is evidence you attach to the file for the deals an auditor samples, not a second subledger.

The limits are plain. Soluqube does not do contract-modification accounting, does not handle usage-based fees, and has no billing or ERP sync. For vendor-by-vendor detail, see Chargebee RevRec alternatives, Maxio alternatives and Soluqube vs Maxio.

To test it on your own deals, send three of your hardest bundled contracts through the design partner programme. Founding prices for the first 10 customers are on pricing.

Frequently Asked Audit & Technical Questions
Does Chargebee RevRec require Chargebee Billing?▼

For one plan, yes. Chargebee's pricing page says the Performance plan "is available only to Chargebee Billing customers". The Enterprise plan carries no such note, and Chargebee's product page lists direct integrations with Stripe and other systems. Whether Enterprise needs Chargebee Billing is not published.

Do free months change how much revenue each obligation gets?▼

Not by themselves. Allocation in Step 4 uses SSP and the total transaction price. Free months change when the customer is invoiced, not the relative SSP split. In the example here, $54,000 is spread over the full 15-month service period. Billing schedules and contract assets need separate analysis.

Can Soluqube sync with Chargebee or Maxio?▼

No. Soluqube has no billing or ERP sync today. You confirm the obligations, price and SSPs, and it returns the allocation, a schedule that ties to the cent and a hashed export with clause evidence. It also does not handle contract modifications or usage-based fees yet.
